Speaking of Fresh Meat….
TCRG Rookie draft was last night!
Congratulations to all the fantastic, talented, AMAZING women who were drafted onto the house teams last night. It’s going to be an epic season. The peeks at the new rosters have me tingling with anticipation.
The April 6th season opener can not come soon enough! Granted.. I will likely have 3 week old Noah with me… but that’s what attachment parenting ( and earmuffs) are for, right? ;)

March 2011, two weeks before I replaced my high top roller skates with real derby skates. ( okay.. my outfit is absolutely ridiculous, and I can’t even begin to explain why I wore that at all.. so forgive me ther)
I’d discovered that I could skate, could get into derby stance and was beginning to understand crossovers. I was so in love and so excited that I wore them at work. It’s funny looking at this because this was before I was skating every night and doing squats at every spare moment. This quite literally, was the beginning.
Chris often says that we could not be luckier when it comes to the timing of my pregnancy. By the time my pregnancy was confirmed in late July, I was in the best shape of my life, and it was all thanks to derby.
Sadly, being pregnant meant that the months I’d spent training, skating, reading and watching derby, had to be set aside. All my roller skating girl friends were about to try out for TCRG Fresh Meat, and I couldn’t join. I had signed up, and now I had to email Dek_her and opt out of tryouts, merely weeks away! I know it sounds vain, but I’m pretty sure I would have made it through tryouts, and who knows how far I could have fone.
Now all my friends are doing great. They’re kicking ass, as I knew they would, on Team Fresh Meat and their Facebook updates, photos and links bear witness to the incredible feats and improvements they’re making. I can’t wait to cheer them on in the new season! It’s going to be pretty amazing to see the girls I learned how to skate, stop, crossover and cheered with, on the track playing with the same roller girls we admired from the stands!
TCRG team drafts are in a week, and I’m stoked for my girls, but it also makes me sad. I’ve faded out of the derby scene and know that when I get back into it, I’ll have to make new friends and figure out new practice and skating schedules because I’m too far behind my friends.
I don’t regret being pregnant, but I wish I could have my cake and eat it too.
Terminal City Rollergirls Fall 2011 Tryout dates were announced today. I’m aiming for September 13. That gives me just under two months to heal my back up and get back out to practicing every free minute that I have.

I was doing so well.
Last week, Cally and I got in at least 2 hour practices 5 nights of the week.
Monday: WFTDA basic skills practice at Grandview court
Tuesday: Seawall
Wednesday: Rain ruined our plans. :( But it gave time for us to rest.
Thursday: The Track for endurance practice, ad we set up cones to practice jumping too.
Friday: We drove an hour out of Vancouver to go to the Chilliwack public skate at Twin Rinks to well, skate. Pretty cool to skate indoors on decent pavement. So far, our only indoor experience comes from the gym floor at Thunderbird which is far from ideal.
Saturday: Raw Meat practice!
Cally is fast becoming one f my favourite people because she is so enthusiastic and positive. She is ALWAYS down to skate, no matter how short of notice and isn’t afraid to try anything or fall. We’ve become addicted to coconut water off of Lulu Demon’s advice ( I blogged on it on Thursday) and pineapple!
Wish me a speedy recovery! I want to ge back on skates asap!!!
Some derby-related procrastination as the work-clock counts down. 20 more minutes before I can go home and skate.
The projected-date of Fresh Meat tryouts with the Terminal City Rollergirls ( if last year is any indication), is 10 weeks from now. All I’ve got on my mind is DERBY DERBY DERBY.
This is from Bonnie N. Collide Nine to Five a webcomic from Monica Gallagher. Check the strips (and swag) out here: http://www.eatyourlipstick.com/BonnieNCollide/BonnieNCollide.htm ( thanks, Paige.)1. Take off that garter-belt-tutu-thing and pay your fuckin’ dues. Lay track, keep score, haul water, stamp hands. There will be a time for semi-nudity and obnoxious self-promotion. And that time is after you’ve actually proven yourself on the track. Teams don’t draft rollergirls. Teams draft…
